Apologies!

Sorry I've been so quiet, but I'm currently arse-deep in calico and foam blocks. I'm building a couch! Specifically, a transforming couch for children, which I have to present in 12 days time to a panel of furniture designers. I have a lot of work to do, so blog updates will be minimal.

By way of apology, here is the worst song ever. If you'd ever wondered about the point on the curve where popular culture bottoms out and begins to suffocate on its own rising shit, this is that point.

Reviews of Brokencyde:

Metal Edge magazine: "fucking horrendous"
Thrash Magazine: "a mockery to the world of music".
Warren Ellis: "a near-perfect snapshot of everything that’s shit about this point in the culture".
New Musical Express: "even if I caught Prince Harry and Gary Glitter adorned in Nazi regalia defecating through my grandmother’s letterbox I would still consider making them listen to this album too severe a punishment."
August Brown of the Los Angeles Times: "The prerecorded backing tracks and juvenile misogyny of bands such as the New Mexico screamo-crunk act BrokenCYDE are affronts to traditionalist punk values. This (sic) 'Albucrazy'-based band has done for MySpace emo what some think Soulja Boy did for hip-hop: turn their career into a kind of macro-performance art that exists so far beyond the tropes of irony and sincerity that to ask 'are they kidding?' is like trying to peel an onion to get to a perceived central core that, in the end, does not exist and renders all attempts to reassemble the pieces futile."

Now you've all shared my pain.

  1. Oh God. What has been heard cannot be unheard.

Also, in case it isn't obvious, photos of the completed couch are obligatory!

I'm not sure I should listen; I have to function for the rest of the day.

  3. @Dave - Couch pics coming as soon as I have any.
    @Liam - if you don't listen, you'll always wonder...

  4. I watched with the sound off. It's kind of mesmerising. I didn't realise jail-bait was a legitimate style now.

    And what's with the pig??

  5. @Merrilee - I think the true awfulness is lost when the sound is off.

My brother and I are both metalheads. This band, for even attempting to steal elements from good music, is an affront to all things holy and unholy. I threw up a little in my mouth.

Ok, I just listened, and wow, what a terrible combination of sounds and images.

  8. Why! WHY! Oh god ... it doesn't make any sense! But you're right. If I hadn't, I would forever wonder about what I was missing ...

Now I know more than anyone ever needed to know about Brokencyde. FYI, they chose their name because they felt their music was "broken inside" because of the emotional issues they'd been through in the past.

    Lush.

  10. lol my husband showed me that clip about a month ago, it's just as bad now as it was then! But in an amusing kind of way like omg someone actually thought that was worthy of putting out into the world? I'm still convinced it's part of a huge joke - perhaps we could start using this as the new rick roll? haha

  11. P.S. as soon as I read 'worst song ever' I knew what was coming. I would have been thoroughly disappointed if in fact it WASN'T this song, because it thoroughly deserves the title.

"When you put it all on the line we're true artists because we do put our heart into it and it is real lyrics and it's not just something we do... we do it for fun, but we don't do it, you know, as a joke."

"I think hip-hop is kids coming out to shows and, uhhh, having a good time, you know, and just that whole state of mind, you know, is hip hop."
    "Word."

    HOLY FUCKING HELL.

"we just wanted to go with everything popular and put it in one box" haha, wow.

I feel like my brain has been torn from my head and these monkeys had their way with it before flinging their shit at it.

You need to post a brilliant song straight after this one so we have an antidote. But then again, I guess it'd be absolutely criminally disrespectful to place a good song anywhere near this steaming pile.

  15. I finally watched it. I have instant regrets. I'm going to have to find some way to erase this experience from my memory. I should really know better than to click links you post, Ruz. I've been burned before.

So basically thanks for enlightening me as to how shitful pop culture can get, asshole. :P
